Ontario HST in 2026: the 13% rate and why there is no PST
The HST rate in Ontario is 13%. It combines the 5% federal GST with an 8% provincial portion, so Ontario does not charge a separate PST on top. A $100 taxable purchase costs $113.
How much is HST in Ontario?
Ontario’s 13% HST applies to most goods and services supplied in the province. It is collected by the CRA as one tax.
| Part | Rate |
|---|---|
| Federal portion (GST) | 5% |
| Ontario portion | 8% |
| HST total | 13% |
Is there PST in Ontario?
Not as a separate sales tax on most purchases. Ontario harmonized its provincial tax with the GST, so the provincial share is already inside the 13% HST.
How to calculate Ontario HST
Multiply the taxable price by 0.13 to get the tax, or by 1.13 to get the total. To find the tax inside a total that already includes HST, divide the total by 1.13 and subtract the result from the total. For example, $226 including HST is $200 before tax plus $26 HST.
How Ontario compares
Ontario’s 13% is the lowest HST rate. Nova Scotia charges 14%, and New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island charge 15%. Quebec’s combined GST and QST is 14.975%.
